Meet the Team: Juliet McGuinness, Governance, Risk and Compliance Specialist
04th Mar 2020
When you work with clients in highly-regulated sectors such as banking and finance, it is critical that we stay on top of all the statutory legislative and regulatory requirements. As our Governance, Risk Management and Compliance specialist, it’s my job to make sure we operate in line with all the requirements for all of the sectors we work with. We have many different sets of regulations to conform to. For example with our banking and financial clients, we need to ensure that we keep within the rules set out by APRA.
One of the most important aspects of my job is to put the frameworks are in place to ensure data security. Client data is extraordinarily precious and we have the highest possible levels of compliance, including PCI-DSS compliance, which is the data security standard used by banks and credit card companies.
I am also responsible for ensuring that we meet all the requirements to maintain our ISO-9001 quality standards accreditation.
20 years with mmw3degrees
I joined mmw3degrees on 1 Feb 1999 so I have been with the company for over 20 years. I started as an Account Manager in Client Services, looking after Westpac and BT, who are still our clients today. After four years I became an Account Director, so my role became more about overseeing the relationship than the day-to-day running of campaigns.
The Love Manager
After around 10 years in that role, I moved into a role that was known internally as the Love Manager, working to create the best possible experience for our clients when working with mmw.
I started in my current role around five years ago, and even though it sounds quite dry, I absolutely love it. I love the fact that I am responsible for something that is so essential to our business and our clients, especially following the banking Royal Commission and increased focus on data privacy.
I also enjoy that fact that the work is project-based, being proactive rather than reactive to ensure the long term data security for the business and our clients.
What do you need to succeed in this role?
Other than my experience of how the organisation works, my attention to detail is essential to this role. Diplomacy is critical and I feel that I can talk to anyone, from company directors to the newest member of the team on the shop floor. I think I’m very approachable and do my job with humour and compassion.
My favourite thing about working at mmw3degrees is the people. We have a flexible, relaxed culture and lovely people. I also enjoy the location, not having to fight through the city traffic every day.
When I’m not at work, I like to travel and I’m pretty social. I love nature, the ocean and driving.
